Unfortunately my UK assistant instructor struggled with running our HKB UK martial arts school in Devon during the 3 month period I was in California training with HKB GM Lin (Nov 2013 - Feb 2014).
This was not down to his lack of physical training or skill, more a matter of business knowledge. So unfortunately we had to make the right decision to temporally close the Newton Abbot Kung Fu Centre towards the end of Jan 2014. (Please note I still currently have a small group of long-term students that I teach privately in the UK when home - and we plan to reopen the school when I move back permanently).
This closure was mostly due to my added commitment to ongoing training and development in USA under HKB GM Lin. Toward the end of last year I was given permission to run the HKB HQ here in Tustin California and I have been working extremely hard (Voluntarily) over the past 6 months to spread the art as far and wide as possible. I upped the amount of classes available and made some changes to make beginner classes more exciting. All while helping to teach at the 15 (in total) classes per week.
I am extremely thankful to HKB GM Lin for giving me his full trust, in the form of this the opportunity to take control the USA HQ. It has helped to build my character and develop my understanding and sped up my learning process, overall heightening my level of focus and general knowledge of running a full time Martial Art School.
Currently I am training with Sifu Lin and his Assistant Instructor group on a weekly basis, we are working on the HKB Sticking Hands (2 Tier Trapping), Wooden Dummy Form and a deeper understanding of the Hoat Keng (HKB Impulse Power). I am also currently in charge of the advertising, marketing, promotions, event planning, student introductions, student development, retention, and social meadia updates, facebook page ect - you name it at the Tustin HQ and I am the person currently take care of it...
We have some bigger plans in the pipeline for HKB, 2 new books are in development and we are soon to start a new series of instructional videos available free to the public to help promote HKB better within the Martial Art community.
That's all for now, thanks for reading.
Best Regards
David Morgan
